Videos from Avocado Festival and Beyond!

A friend of Bill Wolf’s (the drummer with Debra Farris Band) took a video of Deb Farris and her band as we played yesterday at Avocado Festival in Carpenteria, CA. I didn’t even know that he was filming us! I brought my little cruddy camera, but his is MUCH nicer. Here’s a couple from yesterday:

I also noticed there were a few songs from the “Relay for Life” race that we played last year:

Good times!

Demo of “Summertime,” and my upcoming album!

So, I’ve been having a blast as of late just making my own versions of cover songs. I’ve got about 4-5 of them done, and have gotten some pretty good response from people about them. Here’s the latest one: Latest tracks by Josh W Myers

So, it dawned on me that I could produce my own album of all covers. It’d be a bit self-indulgent, as I don’t have a band or anything right now, but it’ll be fun, and I think people will like it. I put a self-imposed deadline of March 2013, and am writing that here so that I can be held accountable! I’ll post updates as they occur!

New song!

This is the first song that I wrote as a “made to order song.” There was a call by an indie film company for “protest songs” for one of their film projects that I saw a few weeks ago. With the help of my friend Debra Farris, I tossed this together. All the other songs I’ve written were either co-written with others or were instrumental. This is the first one that’s pretty much just mine with lyrics and everything (although it would have been impossible to write without Deb’s help). The crowd sound is from a recording of the Oakland OWS protests. I hope you like!

I got a shout out from “Young the Giant!”

So, last summer, the Los Angeles band Young the Giant had a remix contest. They posted up some raw tracks for people to download and remix. I entered a couple of songs. For “Guns Out,” I kept much of what they recorded, but replaced the drums, added some keys, replaced part of the bass guitar. There were something like 200 entries, and they selected the top 10 for an EP of remixes. I didn’t win, but thought I put up some very strong contenders. Well, I just found out today that they liked my track enough to sort of give me an “honerable mention.” They wrote wrote about it in their blog. That was pretty cool!
